Imagine this on your wrist: 36 complications, 25 of them visible, 1,483 components, a 1000-year calendar, a price tag of 2.7 million dollars, and 5 years’ of work. Franck Muller, since 1997 known as “the master of complications”, showed a little more than 2 years ago why the title is well-deserved: the Aeternitas Mega 4.
The Mega 4 is a succesfull attempt to embed all the complications known today in one watch, which should be wearable. Among the more special en complex complications is a grand and small Westminster chime striking work (Grande et Petite Sonnerie), a 1000-year calendar and a Minute Repeater, which is activated on request by pressing a push-piece placed at 10 o’clock. It strikes the hours, the number of quarters and the minutes.
In November 2011, the first of the Mega 4’s was presented to the first (American) owner. A few more examples of this masterpiece will be constructed in the next few years.
